Yes, those are elements that most people would associate with the goth theme, in a fashion sense, at least!
Which leads me to ask this question...
Do we think that the fashion version of goth, aka, "glam goth" here, can differ from the original meaning of goth, or what goth means to certain people? similarly to the way trends with names like punk, rock, hippie, and boho work? None of those trends perfectly mimic the lifestyle and fashion of the groups that they are taking after.

Elisa, I am totally with you here. That's what it's about for most fashionistas- changing it up, trying new things etc. Most people have their staple looks, but still love to transform according to the passing trends!

There's a lot in the set that consists of more than just plain, black clothing. The textures, contours, patterns and imagery add a whole new dimension to the just black theme.

You didn't even think of those, you copied those from that girl that actually knows what fashion is on gothfash. What the hell? There are an epic amount of fashion designers that know what goth is and have brought it back to the runway time and time again. It's not a super secret clubhouse that no one has ever heard of. It's a music based subculture with a rich history of fashion dating back to the late 70s - and trust me, most of the things chosen up top are GAF. I'd wear them in a heartbeat. I have a huge problem with people who think that mainstream press can't call anything goth because it's oh-so-special. It's perfectly acceptable to call things goth without the long disclaimer that some people think it's a magical special way of life that no one but me understaaaands. No matter what that brief fad of cybergoths tried to do to the scene, black is still the new black and what the majority of goth kids wear.

I didn`t say that. What I meant was that it is a lot of elemenst that make up gothic fashion. Those clothes there are just plan black clothing.

The only designers I can think of that has truly understood this, must be Vivienne Westwood, Gaultier, McQueen and Galliano

Have I said that? No, I haven`t. I`m just saying that those clothes are just regular black clothing. There`s nothing gothic about them.

Sure, people can dress goth without embracing the lifestyle. By all means. But those clothes are no where near gothic fashion.

Just because it is black, has a few studs trown in and some skulls, does not make it gothic clothing.

It seems the look here is more than just black. Clearly there are other, more "gothish" elements. Just look in the picture and you can see (for example, the bracelets or the skull clutch).

Im with armitage on this one.
By all means, wear black. Just don't call it goth.
They might just as well call this fall's look "satanistic" or "emo"...
Both are just as ignorant as "goth".

Armitage, that's like saying no one should wear grunge unless they are musicians who actually play grunge music, and no one should do the punk-chic/rocker chick look unless they are punks or actual rockers, or that no one should wear bohemian unless they are hippies... it's a bit extreme, don't you think?

It's not like anyone is wearing religious symbols here, no one is being offended. Fashion is also about showing different sides of yourself, different facets of your personality? And who is to say there isn't a bit of goth in many of us??

How can they call their clothes goth just because their black? Goth is much more then just clothes. It is a way of life for many. I doubt that those designers even know what goth is.

Goth people doesn`t just wear black either.
